Hose Clamps: Small but important

A layman’s life may often come across words like pliers, wrench or even hammer. But there are words that aren’t used much but are used extensively in the mechanical world. One of them is clamps. Clamps are one of the most crucial parts in the world of machinery. They are used to fasten hoses, bind or hold clamps to a specific place or a spot. They are also used in plumbing and high end engines in automobiles to sustain high pressure, high temperatures and forces of turbo. Jolly clamps, apart from being one of the leading constant tension band clamp distributors, turbo clamps distributors and no hub couplings manufacturers are also one of the leading hose clip/clamp manufacturers.

Following are the types of hose clamps:

Ear Clamps:
These clamps are used in places where the fittings are to be done for only once. They are stainless steel bands with end projections called ears. These ears are tightened on the hose tubes with special tools called clamp pliers which are used to bend the clamp ears and fix it permanently. The bands in ear clamps are narrow.

Screw Clamps:
These clamps are used widely in the domestic plumbing system. They are the advanced version of ear clamps because there is a screw at the end of the band which facilitates in loosening or tightening of the clamp as per requirement. The bands have comparatively greater thickness than ear clamps. Screw clamps are also known as worm gear clamps.

Wire clamps:
Wire clamps are solid and heavy rings of steel unlike ear clamps and screw clamps that have stainless steel strips. These rings are discontinued in the middle and the ends are separated by flat projections with holes in them for a nut and screw to pass through to tighten the clamp.

Spring Clamps:
Spring clamps are designed to endure heavy pressure and high temperature. They are made of medium carbon steel and possess flexibility in case of expansion or contraction.Spring Clamps are extensively used in the automobile industry.
